Company context
As a contract manufacturer in perfumery and cosmetics, the company formulates, produces and packages skincare, beauty and makeup products for its clients, in various forms (liquids, solids, powders, beads, etc.). The production lines it operates include filtration systems, in particular to ensure the high bacteriological quality of the cosmetics produced.
Filtration challenge
The company had to carry out, for one of its clients, the packaging of a thermal water intended for skin cleansing. To meet this requirement, it needed to implement a sterilising filtration solution that complied with a very precise set of specifications (production flow rate, microbial quality of the finished product, etc.).
Pemflow filtration solution
Since the thermal water contained very few particles, we recommended installing a 0.2 µm sterilising filtration step directly.
To do so, we supplied a sanitary filter housing (with surface roughness below 0.8) fitted with SMS connections to avoid dead zones and stagnation areas that could promote microbial growth. We then recommended using a filter cartridge made of a PES membrane, classified as a sterilising membrane because it meets the HIMA test requirements (Health Industry Manufacturers Association).
Finally, the use of code 7 connectors ensured perfect sealing.
The installation of the filtration system was completed within 3 weeks: 2 weeks for delivery and 1 week for system assembly.

The solution implemented by Pemflow’s filtration experts proved fully satisfactory from a technical standpoint and confirmed the relevance of our recommendation: opting directly for sterilising filtration without a prior filtration stage. The system allows an entire batch to be processed without needing to replace the cartridge. The resulting thermal water is fully sterile and ready for market use.
In addition, the client uses small filter bags directly at the outlet of the filling lance, as well as 316 stainless steel metal cartridges, for the preparation of creams and lotions.
