Company context
Our client specializes in the production of hot-forged and hot-rolled components for the automotive industry. It manufactures freewheeling, fixed, and sliding gears, as well as differential ring gears. The company contacted us through our website regarding our oil-filtration solutions.
Filtration challenge
The company uses an oil bath (BLASIA 220: synthetic bases with high lubricating capacity and a naturally high viscosity index) for cooling and lubricating the slideways of a forging machine.
This oil, pumped and distributed through four filter housings, each equipped with six filter cartridges, must be treated to remove metal particles of 25 µm in size. As the historical supplier discontinued the filter cartridges previously used, our client turned to an alternative solution, which proved unsatisfactory.
Indeed, the filter cartridges deteriorated under a differential pressure exceeding 3 bar, at a temperature of 50 °C, and their service life was reduced (3 to 4 days). High temperature, high viscosity, and mechanical strength were the key constraints of the problem.

It is worth noting that the efficiency of the 100% Nylon 6 media is higher than that of the polypropylene media used in the previous filter cartridges. To increase the filter’s porosity and thus its particulate retention capacity, we shifted the filtration threshold from 25 µm to 50 µm.

Porosity: Porosity corresponds to the volume of pores relative to the total volume of the material. It is essentially the amount of “void space” per unit volume.

The filter cartridges remain intact even under severe operating conditions and are not subject to fiber release thanks to a thermally bonded matrix.
Each filter cartridge is supplied in individual antistatic packaging and identified with a marking to ensure traceability.
Whereas the previous products had a service life of 3 to 4 days, our client was able to use our filters for 10 to 12 days before clogging occurred.
Moreover, the oil quality remained consistent—or even improved—showing fewer precipitates and greater homogeneity.
