Filtration challenge
Our customer contacted us to implement a filtration solution for low-particle-loaded polyester resins, referred to as “clear resins”.
The specifications set out the following service conditions:
- Flow rate: 30 m3/h
- Pressure: 10 bar
- Temperature: 50°C
- ATEX Zone 1
The specific characteristic of the resin is its viscosity of up to 3500 cP at the operating temperature.

Characteristic of a fluid that resists separation forces and motion. This parameter is closely associated with the concepts of pressure drop and energy dissipation.
Pemflow filtration solution
The combination of high viscosity, temperature, and chemical compatibility represents a challenge for this type of application. If the filter does not meet these parameters, the consequences are numerous and irreversible:
- Reduced porosity
- Reduced flow rate
- Premature clogging
- Release of contaminants, compromising the quality of the filtered product
Accordingly, AMAZON FILTERS has developed a cartridge featuring a rigid structure, based on meltblown technology, specifically adapted to the requirements of high-viscosity fluid filtration: the VisClear II cartridge.
The VisClear II cartridge has been specifically designed to operate in chemical processing and industrial liquid coatings. More specifically, these cartridges have been optimized for the treatment of solutions with high viscosity and elevated temperature.
The continuous development of our meltblown technology has resulted in the production of an extremely robust filtration media structure. This strength is essential to prevent deformation under the high differential pressures often associated with high-viscosity fluids.
VisClear II cartridges have been developed to fit directly into applications traditionally using resin-bonded cartridges (RBC). The VisClear II provides filtration quality equivalent to an RBC, with the additional benefits of improved filtrate quality.
In this application, the cartridge is composed of a Nylon 6 filter media, without end caps (DOE), with a filtration rating of 125 µm and a length of 30’’.
To meet our customer’s requirement for a flow rate of 30 m3/h, we selected a Type 62 filter housing from the AMAZON FILTERS range.
The configuration of this filter housing includes the following characteristics:
• 30 double open-ended 30’’ cartridges
• 316 stainless steel material
• Opening/closing: flat lid with 10 swing bolts – articulated lifting davit
• Inlet/Outlet: DN100 PN16 flanges EN1092
• Microbead-blasted finish
• CE marking / compliance with Directive 2014/68/EU and ATEX
Expert advice
For pressures ranging from 6 to 10 bar, we equip our housings with Rathmann clamps.
It should be noted that, to accommodate the mechanical constraints of the installation, we raised the fixed legs by 300 mm compared to the standard configuration. The flexibility of our production allows us to consider modifications to our standard products, adapting them to the specific constraints of our customers.
