Company context

Rooted for more than 150 years at the heart of its region, our client has acquired unique know-how that today stands alongside the most modern techniques in the production of high-quality beverages. The company employs around forty people and produces, on average, 150,000 bottles per day.

With an integrated quality control laboratory as well as an R&D unit, the company designs and develops all its new products at its French site.

Filtration challenge

Our client uses filter plates, composed of cellulose and perlite, to remove contaminants in the production of organic or non-organic sugar syrups, at 60° Bx, and to clarify the solution.

Expert advice

The Brix scale is used to measure, in degrees Brix (°B or °Bx), the fraction of sucrose in a liquid, i.e. the percentage of soluble dry matter. The higher the °Brix, the sweeter the sample.

Significant labour costs (cleaning, maintenance, etc.), together with extended downtime of the plate filtration system, led our client to consult various suppliers in search of a more optimal technical solution and a reduction in operating costs.

Pemflow filtration solution

Pemflow was selected to supply a filter housing / filter cartridge assembly for the following reasons:

  • Ease of installation and operation
  • Reduced footprint, compared with a plate filtration system
  • Significantly reduced energy and water consumption
  • Unchanged production procedures
  • Closed system providing stability and safety
  • Sanitary filter housing
  • Food-contact approved filter cartridge

The client’s operating conditions required a filtration system capable of handling a weekly throughput of 20 t and an instantaneous flow rate of 4.2 m³/h.

Pemflow selected a high-flow cartridge of the SupaPleat FFC type from AMAZON FILTERS

SupaPleat FFC High-Flow Cartridge

Developed to meet the requirements of numerous processes, this filter cartridge incorporates a pleated depth media offering low pressure drop and high dirt-holding capacity.

In the version proposed to our client, this large-diameter high-flow cartridge is:

In terms of certification, this industrial filter is suitable for food contact:
