Company context

Our customer is a French company operating in the design, manufacture, and sale of luxury products, particularly perfumery. The group is expanding internationally, focusing its development around three major regions: Asia, Europe, and the United States. Today, the company employs more than 15,000 people worldwide.

Filtration challenge

During packaging, the company was using 10-inch polypropylene filter cartridges for several production batches. Our customer observed the release of fibers after a few filtered batches.

This observation led to a production shutdown as well as the outright loss of the contaminated batches. We were contacted to resolve this technical and economic issue.

Pemflow filtration solution

To address this issue while avoiding the presence of contaminants in the fluid, we proposed a metallic cartridge solution without adhesives or glues. The solution meeting these extractables-free criteria is the SupaMesh metallic cartridge range from AMAZON FILTERS.

All SupaMesh cartridges are manufactured from 316 stainless steel. The cylindrical format used in this application features a simple tube supported by a central core. The construction method is based on TIG and Plasma welding. This ensures the integrity of the cartridge, eliminating the presence of extractables.

Namely

TIG welding

TIG welding is an arc welding process using a non-consumable electrode, with the addition of filler metal if required. TIG is an acronym for Tungsten Inert Gas, where tungsten refers to the electrode and inert gas to the type of plasma-forming gas used.

Expert advice

For this same type of cartridge, the design with a pleated media, also supported by a central core, provides twice the surface area compared to the cylindrical version.

The metallic cartridge is installed in a Series 72 In-Line filter housing from AMAZON FILTERS. The sanitary design of the Series 72 prevents product retention in the filter housing, while facilitating quick cleaning and disinfection procedures. The in-line configuration allows the filter housing to be easily integrated into existing piping layouts.

  • 316L stainless steel
  • 1 × 5’’ cartridge, Code 7
  • Operating temperature: -10 / +150 °C
  • Maximum operating pressure: 10 bar
  • Inlet/Outlet: 1’’ Tri-ClampIn-Line design
  • FDA-grade silicone seal
  • Certified sanitary finish: Ra < 0.8 µm
  • Electropolishing on all internal and external surfaces
  • Mechanical polishing on all internal surfaces
  • CE marking
  • Compliance with Directive 2014/68/EU
