Company context
Originally dedicated to the production and synthesis of perfumes and a supplier to major names in the fragrance industry, our client expanded into the manufacturing of synthetic flavorings. Numerous flavors were developed as synthetic aroma demand grew within the agri-food industry. Since then, the company has become one of the world’s leading players in perfumery and flavorings. Unsatisfied with a strainer-based filtration setup, the company consulted us to develop a custom product tailored to its specific challenge.
Filtration challenge
Our client was filtering its low-viscosity products using metal strainers. However, this filtration solution was not satisfactory. The company observed frequent breakage of the stainless-steel strainers during handling and filter cleaning.
Although an internal solution existed within a foreign subsidiary of the group, the company chose to look for a local filtration expert capable of meeting its requirements with the same filtration quality standards, but at a lower financial cost.
In addition, we had to propose a product suitable for food contact and a design guaranteeing the absence of phthalates in the sealing gasket.
Pemflow filtration solution

CConsidering the client’s requirements, we developed a custom filter.
This specific filter, designed by our team, consists of a woven stainless-steel mesh disc surrounded by a silicone gasket.
- Internal diameter: 40 mm
- External diameter: 50 mm
- Filtration rating: 50 µm
Our client uses this product in gravity filtration for its most liquid products.
It is important to note that the manufacturing materials contain no binders or resins. Since the products are intended for the food industry, we supplied a food-contact compliance certificate in accordance with EU Regulations 1935/2004 and 10/2011.
Key point
Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004
Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004 replaced Directive 89/109/EEC and Directive 80/590/EEC as of 03/12/2004. It applies to materials and articles which, in their finished state, are intended to be brought into contact, or are brought into contact in accordance with their intended use, with foodstuffs or with water intended for human consumption.
The design and manufacture of the silicone gasket took into account both food-contact compliance and the absence of phthalates. This requirement was confirmed by a certificate we issued. In addition, our client carried out validation tests to verify phthalate tolerance according to its own quality and regulatory criteria.

The silicone used for manufacturing the filter screens with overmolded sealing bead complies with the following food-contact standards:
- NF EN 1186, Parts 1 & 3
- Order of 25/11/92 (French Official Journal of 17/12/92)
- Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 of 27/10/2004
- Regulation (EU) 10/2011 of 14/01/2011, as amended (Annexes III & V)
Furthermore, the raw material is ROHS II compliant, and specifically meets Annex II of European Directive 2015/863 on the “restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances” and tolerated concentration levels. The client expressed satisfaction, particularly regarding compliance with the specifications and the provision of the full documentation and certification package.
All transmitted information guarantees the client that the filtered products comply with regulatory requirements. The company is now considering entrusting us with the design and manufacture of a mobile filtration skid.
