Company context

The company manufactures and markets sheep’s milk and goat’s milk cheeses.

Faithful to an ancestral tradition based on centuries-old recipes, our client positions itself between tradition and innovation, between craftsmanship and industry.

Today, it is present in the kitchens of leading French and international chefs.

Filtration challenge

Our client produces compressed air, which is stored in buffer tanks. This compressed air is then used for product packaging, in compliance with food-grade air quality requirements to ensure consumer protection.

The requirement was expressed as the need to filter the compressed air at the outlet of the compressor tank and up to the point of obtaining sterile air, as close as possible to the packaging machine process.

Pemflow filtration solution

This filtration configuration, fully mastered by pemflow, requires three types of in-line filters, in the following order: a water/oil separator filter, a high-performance activated carbon filter, and a sterilizing filter.

To achieve this, we proposed the Kronsbein Ultrafilter product range, specifically designed for this type of application.

Water/oil separation

Thanks to the unique combination of nanofiber filter media and pleating technology, the micro filter elements combine particle retention with the removal of water and oil aerosols. The oleophobic media repels oil, and maintenance operations are reduced to a minimum compared with conventional technologies.

Technical specifications

Filtration rating: 0.01 µm
Efficiency: 99.99999%
Retention rate: 99%
Flow rate: 270 to 360 m³/h
Residual oil content: < 0.01 mg/m³

High-performance activated carbon

Activated carbon filters are designed to effectively remove oil and hydrocarbon vapors. They consist of two filtration stages: a nanofiber depth media that captures particles, and activated carbon that adsorbs oil and hydrocarbon vapors.

The residual oil content is below 0.003 mg/m³, taking into account upstream protection by coalescing filters to remove liquid oil.

Technical specifications

Filtration rating: 0.01 µm
Efficiency: 99.99999%
Retention rate: 99%
Flow rate: 270 to 360 m³/h
Residual oil content: < 0.01 mg/m³

Aluminum filter housing

For these first two filtration stages, the water/oil separator filters and activated carbon filters are installed in AG series aluminum housings.

The aluminum filter housings are manufactured in three parts to facilitate replacement of the high-performance filter elements. An audible alarm is triggered if the filter housing is opened under pressure.

The wall-mounting bracket allows adjustment of the spacing between filter housings and adapts the installation of the units to the mounting surface. Push & Turn technology ensures easy replacement of the filter element.

Technical data

Pressure: 16 bar
Operating temperature: 65 °C
Housing: aluminum
Seal: Perbunan
Connections: BSP or NPT
Flow rates: 20–2,880 m³/h

As close as possible to the packaging machine application, we proposed a sterilizing filtration assembly, consisting of a P-SFR-N type filter and a P-EG series filter housing.

Depth sterilizing filter

The retention rate of 99.99998% is linked to a filtration rating of 0.2 µm. For the food industry, depth filters are recommended as sterile filters. They are generally installed locally, as close as possible to the point of use.

These filter elements can be sterilized.

Composed of a three-dimensional borosilicate depth pleated filtration media, this filter achieves a void volume of 95%, ensuring high containment capacity at high flow rates and a low differential pressure. The inner and outer supports, as well as the end caps, are made of stainless steel.

Technical specifications

Filtration rating: 0.2 µm
LRV: > 7
Operating temperature: 20 °C, available up to 200 °C
Efficiency: 99.99998%
Depth pleated media: borosilicate
Seal: silicone, others on request
End caps: 304 stainless steel
Max ΔP: 5 bar

P-EG filter housing

The stainless steel gas filter housings have been developed for the purification of compressed air and other technical gases. Thanks to their optimized design, they provide a low differential pressure at high flow rates.

They are available in 18 different sizes, covering flow rates from 60 m³/h to 19,200 m³/h. This range represents the most relevant choice for prefiltration, sterile filtration, and steam filtration.
