Company context
During the manufacturing process, it is necessary to filter the potassium chloride precipitated in an organic solvent.
Filtration challenge
After leaving the reactor/agitator, the solution containing potassium chloride is filtered using a 6 µm filter cloth. The company wanted to reduce the potassium chloride concentration to below 200 ppm before drum filling, through an additional filtration step.
The proposed filtration solution had to operate under the existing production conditions: 200 kg/h flow rate, 3 bar pressure, at ambient temperature. The filtration equipment also needed to be compatible with the solvent used in the production line.
A preliminary laboratory test conducted by the client showed that the 200 ppm target could be achieved using 0.45 µm laboratory filter discs.
Pemflow filtration solution

We proposed using a very high-surface-area filter, capable of handling a wide range of flow rates and particulate concentrations.
To validate the approach, we conducted trials with two absolute filtration thresholds: 1 µm and 0.5 µm. For these tests, we provided the client with a rental filtration housing, so they only needed to purchase the filter cartridges. All filtration equipment was supplied by AMAZON FILTERS.
To ensure chemical compatibility with the solvent used, we recommended FEP-encapsulated seals.
The tests proved successful: the proposed solution enabled the client to reduce potassium chloride concentration below 200 ppm, including with 0.5 µm absolute filters.
The client therefore purchased the full filtration setup recommended by Pemflow.
