This food product manufacturer was building a new processing facility to increase its production capacity and product portfolio.
The designers of the new coffee processing plant specified the required use of industrial filters in their process. As these filters would be in direct contact with food products, they had to strictly comply with regulatory standards.
Consequently, the client was seeking a trusted industrial filtration expert capable of meeting their technical and regulatory requirements.
Filtration challenge
In the production process, the coffee is transferred from one tank to another during freeze-drying.
At this stage, it is essential to remove any agglomerated coffee residues from the system to maintain product quality and protect the pump.
Due to the scale and design of the operation, the process required the use of ten transfer filters.
These filters had to be of hygienic/sanitary design and resistant to aggressive treatment, including in-place chemical cleaning (CIP).
Pemflow filtration solution
The specific manufacturing requirements called for a custom-designed filtration system.
To fully meet the client’s expectations, we supplied 10 stainless steel basket filter housings, with a special internal finish featuring a surface roughness (Ra) below 0.8 µm, equipped with DuoMesh stainless steel double-layer baskets. In addition, vacuum jackets were required on all filters to maintain the low operating temperature.
This filtration system was fully compatible with the CIP liquid (12% caustic solution at 85 °C) and met the additional requirement of enabling the recovery of any remaining product in the system at the end of the process.
By providing this custom filtration solution, the client’s specific technical and regulatory requirements were fully met.
